“… architectural unit Assistant directly intervenes in the real cities and architecture and augments reality by making the ‘in-between’ visible. ‘You were not where I was when I was there. We were in completely different places. So you did not see anything and I could not show anything to you.’ (2012) is an archival exhibit of videos and images in relation to their previous urban research projects and a new work. Naturally, however, it is not designed just as any archival exhibition. They put another two-person show in the two-person exhibition, and located a 1:7 sized model of the entire exhibition in the middle of the room. Although Matsubara created many of the works on her own, Ariyama made decisions about the editing and structure of the exhibits. All of their works are either in nested forms or double layered. In an interview while the work was underway, Ariyama explained that the focus for this exhibit was the space in between the exhibition architecture and the model. This could be translated as a metaphor for a world in which fiction and reality intermingle.”

“ASSISTANT (松原慈、有山 宙)は、現実世界の都市や建築に直接的に介入し、むしろ「あいだ」をつくりだす(可視化する)ことで 現実を拡張させる。《その時そこにいなかったあ なたと、その時そこにいたわたしは、まったく別のところにいた／だからあなたは何も見なかったし、わたしはあなたに何も見せることができなかった》(2012)は、過去の都市リサーチプロジェクトの映像やイメージと新作で構成されたアーカイヴの展示である。勿論、ただのアーカイヴの展示ではない。2人展の中の2人展であること、実際の展示を7分の1に縮小したミニチュア模型が中央に配置されていること、松原のみで行ったプロジェクトも多く含まれるにも関わらず、(海外の仕事で)松原不在のまま、有山のみで編集や展示構成が進められていくことなど、すべてが入れ子状、あるいは二重構造で作品世界が構築されている。制作中のヒアリングの中で、有山は今回のプロジェクトについて、実際の展示とミニチュア模型の「あいだ」 を意識したと語っているが、それはそのまま〈現実〉と〈虚構〉の入り混じった世界、〈拡張現実〉の メタファーとも言えるだろう。”
